Our Approach
How We Help Our Clients Achieve a Balanced Mind
Serene Mind recognizes that everyone has a unique way of coping and healing. As experts in the mental health sector, we help our clients in growing and changing through a caring and empowering approach to therapy.
Focusing on Awareness
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) heightens the awareness of the patients through various exercises. In this method, the patients are asked to notice thoughts and sensations that arise and strengthen the attention back to the present moment.
Some issues that DBT treats include:
- Anger
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Eating Disorder Behavior
- Panic Attacks
- Rumination
- Self-Harming and Suicidal Tendencies
- Substance Abuse
Skills learned through the DBT technique:
- Distress Tolerance
- Emotion Regulation
- How to Walk the Middle Path
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Mindfulness
Our patients can take control of their intense emotions and focus on what’s important for them through unique treatment protocols and planning.
Personalized Treatments
We also employ a technique known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems, including:
- Alcohol and Drug Use Problems
- Anxiety Disorders
- Depression
- Eating Disorders
- Marital Problems
- Severe Mental Illness
Many research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in one’s quality of life. CBT has also been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. This treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking and behavioral patterns using different strategies.
Strategies in Changing Thinking Patterns
- Coping with difficult situations using problem-solving skills
- Developing a sense of confidence
- Recognizing thinking distortions and re-evaluating them
- Understanding the behavior of others better
Strategies in Changing Behavioral Patterns
- Facing fears instead of avoiding them
- Learning to calm their mind and body
- Preparing for problematic interactions with others using role play
Mindfulness
Research shows that aside from increasing mental focus and happiness, mindfulness decreases stress and sadness. This beneficial mental state is the ability to be fully present in the moment and conscious of what’s around.
Meditation Practice
One way to truly experience the current moment and integrate that awareness into your everyday life is through practicing mindfulness meditation. Those who do this exercise have noted that they experience a heightened level of positivity such as feeling more compassionate, patient, and welcoming. Aside from this, those who meditate feel decreased levels of negative emotions like frustration and stress.
Motivational Interviewing
This counseling method helps patients in finding their internal motivation as a process of behavioral change by resolving insecurities and ambivalent feelings. Motivational interviewing is a practical and short-term process that guides patients through empathy.
Changing Unhealthy Behaviors
Some of the conditions that this method addresses are addiction, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. This intervention recognizes the difficulty for an individual to make life changes but it’s designed to motivate people to alter behaviors and choose healthier options. Motivational interviewing can also prepare individuals for more specific types of therapies.
Finding Motivation
It is normal for patients to find difficulty in committing to change. With our sessions, we help them get through the challenging emotional process that is necessary for finding motivation.
Teletherapy is a unique service that allows therapists and counselors to provide counseling services via a HIPPA-compliant video conference. This type of therapy is very similar to in-person therapy, but instead of sitting in the same room as your counselor, you’re interacting with them through a screen. This is extremely beneficial for situations such as the isolating requirements of COVID-19, allowing patients to get the therapy they need without having to put themselves and others at risk. Telehealth provides privacy, flexibility, and safety for patients and staff.
